At The Name Of Jesus

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins." - Matthew 1:21 (KJV)
Jesus Christ (or Yeshua Ha-Maschiach, in Hebrew) is the name of our Lord and Saviour. Jesus (Yeshua) means "Salvation". Christ (or Maschiach) means Messiah, the "Anointed One", the "Deliverer" which God had promised would come. When you put these names together, it all makes sense. Jesus is indeed Salvation and He is The Anointed One. There is no other name that is higher, no other name more sweeter, no other name more worthy of our praise, than the name of Jesus. Let us dig in a little deeper and further reflect on our Master's powerful name in today's blog post.
To begin, let us remember the glorious scriptures of the Old Testament, where Jesus' birth was foretold and where it was prophesied that He would also be known by the name "Immanuel" (meaning: God with us) as well as by the names Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, and The Prince of Peace.
"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." - Isaiah 7:14 (KJV)
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)
When we take time for prayer or worship and we come into the presence of The Most High, we are standing on Holy Ground and are well aware of His nearness. When we speak His name, He draws near. The more that we speak of Him and the more that we praise His name, the closer He draws to us. Just knowing that our Saviour longs to hear us speak His name and longs for our adoration should make us yearn for more time in His presence and should cause us to strive a little harder to offer more sacrifices of praise unto Him. He is as close as the very mention of His name. Speak His name with reverence. The more that you speak it, the dearer and nearer it will become in your life and the more love you will hold in your heart for that name which is above all other names.
Philippians 2:9-10 (KJV) -
9 - "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:"
10 - "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;"
Practice praise. Call unto Him. Whisper the name of Jesus (or Yeshua, in Hebrew). Sing praises to that Holy Name. Include some of these other names in your worship of Him: The Lamb of God, Messiah (or Christ), Emmanuel, The Holy One, The Great I Am, Majesty, The Prince of Peace, The Comforter, The Light, The King of Kings, The Everlasting Father, Jehovah, Wonderful, Counsellor, Precious Saviour, God in the Highest, Master, Redeemer, Bread of Life, our Everything!
There are no words in the English dictionary that can fully describe how wonderful and beautiful our Jesus is! He means more to us than any words can tell. Kneeling in His presence, feeling the awe of His greatness, and with arms reaching upward in adoration for Him, we find ourselves crying out the lyrics of that well-loved hymn by Charles Wesley, "O for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer’s praise!" No amount of words are enough to describe our love for Jesus and the delight that His very name brings us.
Jesus loves to hear you utter His name. He loves it when you acknowledge Him. He wants you to profess that He is the Christ (Messiah) and that He is the Lamb of God, the only way to Salvation.
Matthew 16:15-17 (KJV) -
15 - "He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?"
16 - "And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17 - "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven."
Do not be ashamed to speak about Jesus. Tell others about Him. You know that He can change lives, so share His name and share His truth with those around you. There is something about His name that can even capture the attention of staunch unbelievers, those who have declared that there is no Saviour. There is power in His name. Jesus is the most beautiful name that was ever spoken and ever shall be spoken! Let us love the One who bears that name. Let us hold Him close. We are His and He is ours. How wonderful the thought of Him!
"Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name." - Malachi 3:16 (KJV)
Jesus Is The Sweetest Name I Know
written by: Lela B. Long
There have been names that I have loved to hear,
But never has there been a name so dear
To this heart of mine, as the name divine,
The precious, precious name of Jesus.
refrain:
Jesus is the sweetest name I know,
And He’s just the same as His lovely name,
And that’s the reason why I love Him so;
Oh, Jesus is the sweetest name I know.
There is no name in earth or Heav’n above,
That we should give such honor and such love
As the blessed name, let us all acclaim,
That wondrous, glorious name of Jesus.
And someday I shall see Him face to face
To thank and praise Him for His wondrous grace,
Which He gave to me, when He made me free,
The blessed Son of God called Jesus.
